CEF and Dallas College Construction Sciences Building

For more than 20 years, Dallas College and the Construction Education Foundation (CEF) have partnered to offer hands-on training for the construction industry, providing students and employees opportunities to broaden their skills and advance their careers in the construction industry. In response to a growing industry need for trained labor, this new state-of-the-art 97,000-square-foot facility was constructed and opened in Fall 2021. The Dallas College Construction Sciences Building is LEED Silver and includes interactive, high-tech laboratories (11) and classrooms (28) to support education in the latest construction technologies, systems, and methods. The building was designed and constructed both as a functional campus and as a live laboratory for industry trades. The new building has designated areas for in-progress building construction, carpentry, engineering, welding, pipefitting, HVAC, plumbing, pipe threading, sheet metal fabrication, electrical, safety, roofing, and materials testing. A few unique features are exposed systems, components, and materials throughout for teaching; the covered exterior lab for outdoor equipment use, mock-ups, and assembly installations in various conditions and temperatures; and three distinctly different air conditioning systems to showcase various HVAC technologies to students and visitors.
